Aquatics Supervisor

Aquatics Supervisor

CBRC Health & Fitness

CBRC Health & Fitness is seeking an experienced, energetic, and safety-focused Aquatics Supervisor to help lead our aquatics department. This full-time position plays an important role in creating a safe, welcoming, and high-quality aquatic experience for our members, guests, swim lesson families, and staff.

Working closely with the Aquatics Director, the Aquatics Supervisor provides day-to-day leadership for our lifeguard team, supports and oversees swim lesson programming, conducts staff training, and helps ensure our pools operate safely and professionally.

At CBRC, our core purpose is building a community and inspiring healthier lives. We are looking for an Aquatics Supervisor who brings that purpose to life through strong leadership, exceptional customer service, quality instruction, and an unwavering commitment to safety.

The Role

The Aquatics Supervisor is a hands-on leadership position responsible for supporting the safe and efficient operation of CBRC’s aquatics department. The Supervisor will spend time on deck, in the water, teaching lessons, developing staff, interacting with members and families, and ensuring our safety standards are consistently met.

This position is ideal for an experienced aquatics professional who enjoys developing people, teaching swimmers, solving problems, and taking an active role in daily operations.

Key Responsibilities

Aquatics Leadership & Member Experience

  • Support the Aquatics Director in the daily operation of CBRC’s aquatics department.
  • Provide positive, professional leadership to lifeguards and swim instructors.
  • Maintain open and effective communication with the Aquatics Director and department staff.
  • Create a friendly and welcoming environment for members, guests, families, and coworkers.
  • Help ensure the safety and well-being of all patrons and staff.
  • Model professionalism, accountability, teamwork, and exceptional customer service.
  • Consistently enforce facility policies, procedures, and department standards.
  • Attend and participate in required meetings, trainings, and in-service sessions.
  • Address member concerns professionally and help resolve customer service issues in a timely manner.

Swim Lesson Program

  • Teach a minimum of 10 hours of swim lessons each week, excluding lessons alternated with the Aquatics Director.
  • Deliver high-quality swim instruction using CBRC’s established teaching methods.
  • Build positive relationships with students and parents through excellent instruction and professional communication.
  • Substitute for swim instructors when needed.
  • Assist with scheduling group, private, and make-up lessons.
  • Maintain accurate records for attendance, payments, student progress, contact information, and skill levels.
  • Help keep online pool and swim lesson schedules accurate and current.
  • Support the promotion and growth of CBRC swim lessons through community outreach, social media, facility displays, and special events.

Lifeguard Leadership & Safety

  • Supervise, schedule, coach, mentor, and evaluate lifeguard staff.
  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, onboarding, and training new lifeguards.
  • Ensure lifeguards maintain active surveillance, provide excellent customer service, and consistently enforce facility rules.
  • Conduct regular staff in-service training, rescue drills, and performance evaluations in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Help develop engaging and effective training methods that keep the aquatics team prepared and confident.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of pools, decks, rescue equipment, and surrounding areas.
  • Monitor staffing levels and adjust schedules to maintain appropriate coverage.
  • Lead staff during emergency situations and ensure CBRC Emergency Action Plans are followed.
  • Coordinate emergency response procedures, including water rescues, first aid, CPR, incident documentation, and follow-up.
  • Maintain accurate records of staff certifications, trainings, attendance, incidents, inspections, and evaluations.
  • Monitor water chemistry, maintain required records, and train staff in appropriate water-testing procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable local, state, federal, and organizational health and safety requirements.
  • Monitor and maintain rescue equipment, first aid supplies, and other aquatic safety equipment.
  • Assist with opening, closing, and other daily aquatic facility operations.

What We’re Looking For

The ideal candidate is an experienced lifeguard and swim instructor who is ready to take a strong leadership role within the aquatics department. You understand that great aquatics leadership requires a combination of safety expertise, organization, teaching ability, customer service, and the willingness to jump in wherever needed.

Strong candidates will bring:

  • A minimum of two years of lifeguard supervisory experience.
  • A minimum of two years of swim instruction experience.
  • Previous experience supervising or leading employees is preferred.
  • Strong leadership, coaching, and team-building skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • The ability to work effectively with children, adults, and families.
  • A positive attitude, patience, professionalism, and sound judgment.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • The ability to remain calm, make decisions, and provide leadership during emergencies.
  • Dependable attendance and punctuality.

Required Certifications

Candidates must possess the following current certifications upon hire:

  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding
  • American Red Cross CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer
  • American Red Cross Lifeguarding Instructor (LGI) certification, or the ability to obtain LGI certification by November 2026

Physical Requirements

Because this is an active, hands-on aquatics position, the Aquatics Supervisor must be able to:

  • Swim continuously and successfully perform water rescues.
  • Lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Stand, walk, bend, kneel, and sit for extended periods.
  • Work both indoors and outdoors in varying conditions, including heat and sun exposure.
  • Have sufficient vision and hearing to effectively monitor patrons, identify potential hazards, and respond appropriately during emergencies.

Schedule

This is a full-time, nonexempt position averaging 37.5–40 hours per week.

Aquatics operations require flexibility, and the Aquatics Supervisor must be available for a schedule that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events. Availability during peak aquatic seasons and occasional emergency staffing situations is also required.

Compensation & Benefits

Pay range: $17.75–$20.25 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.

Full-time benefits include:

  • Medical, dental, and vision benefits available after 30 days.
  • One week of vacation, based on hours worked, available for use after one year of employment.

Why CBRC?

At CBRC, aquatics is about more than keeping our pools running. It is an opportunity to help a child become confident in the water, give families a place to enjoy time together, help people stay active throughout their lives, and provide an environment where our members feel safe, supported, and welcome.

Our Aquatics Supervisor has an important role in making that possible—by developing a strong team, maintaining high safety standards, delivering excellent swim instruction, and creating positive experiences for our members and guests.

If you are an experienced aquatics professional who enjoys teaching, developing people, leading from the pool deck, and creating a safe and welcoming environment, we would love to hear from you.
