Columbia Basin Racquet Club values its members and staff. Once a month, the blog will spotlight someone from the CBRC family to give readers an inside scope of the people in the community at the premier health club in town.
Spotlight: Meet Nancy
CBRC wouldn’t be what it is today without incredible staff. Often, they work behind the scenes and sometimes their work goes unnoticed. This month, we would like to highlight Nancy Cameron, one of our Housekeepers at CBRC.
Nancy has been working at CBRC and has been part of our family since 1994. Originally from Michigan, Nancy moved to Yakima, Washington, where she met her husband. After they moved to the Tri-Cities area, Nancy started working at CBRC. She shares that “I really like this job, and I have always liked cleaning.” Nancy briefly left in 1995, but after her husband passed, Nancy came back to CBRC to support her children.
Nancy told me that “I feel like I’m the mother here. Everyone who walks through that door is like my child.” She cleans up after them, does the laundry (or in this case, tons of towels), and makes sure that they are taken care of. She is genuinely passionate about her job at CBRC, and has made many friends over the years. We are truly grateful for the work she does every day!
Inside the Job
Nancy’s days typically start early in the morning. She starts by checking the main stairs in the front by the member entrance. From there, she gets her cleaning barrel ready for the day, and her rounds begin. She heads up to the group fitness studios and replenishes the stock of clean, fresh towels.
She then cleans CBRC from one end to the other – that’s no small task! That includes vacuuming, taking care of the garbage bins, and gathering the dirty towels. After the morning work is done, she heads over to the locker rooms to clean and replenish towels. Throughout the day she does several loads of laundry: washing and folding towels. I tried to get an estimate of how many towels a day CBRC goes through. Let’s just say that it is a lot!
Nancy laughs and shares her secret with me: “You have to stay one step ahead of Line 5!” Line 5 on the telephones is the housekeeping line. She works diligently to stay on top of everything so she doesn’t get backed up on housekeeping calls.
Thank you
Outside of work, Nancy loves spending time with her 3 grandchildren. In her free time she likes to roller skate and bowl with her children and grandchildren. On behalf of everyone at CBRC, thank you for all of the years of hard work and service Nancy!
