Time to Raise the Barre

A guy walks into a Barre . . .

Heard that one before, right?

Not like this, you haven’t.

This guy, when he walks into the Barre, sees something totally different than what you may expect.

He sees men and women of all ages, backgrounds, and body types.

He sees high energy movement, paired with high energy music.

He sees people working out, getting fit, sweating, and loving it.

Barre is a strength class, but it uses mostly body weight.  Does that seem counter-intuitive?  After all, if I want to build strength, I need to be able to curl 100 pounds with my pinky finger, right?

Not at all.

Using body weight allows for high repetition.  It builds long, lean, strong muscles.

With the high repetition, low weight approach, there is no stress on the spine or joints.

Focusing on posture, you will feel taller, stronger, and longer.  No more will you feel compressed as you go about your day.  Feeling the weight of the world bearing down on your tired shoulders.

Now, don’t get me wrong, there is a place for heavy weight training.  In fact, this is a great complement to heavy weight training.  Why?  Because Barre focuses on the smaller, internal muscles, that support your joints.

If your joints aren’t well supported, you’re at risk for injury.  Have you ever heard of a body builder with joint problems?  It’s not uncommon.  And a big part of that is an over emphasis on bulking up, without enough thought toward the smaller stabilizing muscles.

As soon as the weight goes up, the bigger muscles take over, leaving the smaller ones underdeveloped.

Barre is a whole-body workout.  The first half of the class is standing, working the arms, legs, back, and core.  The class finishes on the mat with abdominal work.

But if you want to spend some more time on your core, or you just can’t do without your Pilates, you’re in luck.  You can do the Fusion class, and get the best of both worlds.

The Fusion class is literally half Barre, half Pilates.

The bottom line is this: Barre is great for everyone.  Whether you are trying to get in shape for the first time, and can’t navigate the different weights and workouts.  Or if you’re a seasoned veteran, looking to add variety to your workouts, and stability to your muscles.  Whether you’re 18 years old, or your grandkids are 18 years old.  Whether you’re a man or a woman, you can benefit from Barre.

And it’s free as a part of your membership.

So, check out the class schedule here and see when the next class is.

We’ll meet you at the Barre.

And we wish you good health,

Columbia Basin Racquet Club
