Pitch, bunt, putt, dribble, kick, spike, pass…. Kids ages 7 to 11, at all ability levels, will learn these skills and more when they participate in Columbia Basin Racquet Club’s Try It Ball Sports program this summer.
Over the course of two weeks, participants will work with personal trainers – many of whom played collegiate sports – to learn the fundamentals of:
- Baseball
- Basketball
- Football
- Golf
- Soccer
- Softball
- Volleyball
PERSONALIZED ATTENTION
The sessions are focused on skill development and overall body awareness, so kids don’t feel self-conscious about not knowing how the games are played or having to learn complicated rules of play. Each session is capped at 12 with two trainers, so kids will receive personalized attention in a safe environment.
Morgan Fewel, the Fitness Director at CBRC, said the classes are ideal for those who haven’t had a chance to discover which sports interest them. It’s also fun for kids who may have played one particular sport and haven’t had a chance to explore other options.
AFFORDABLE ACTIVITY
The classes are non-competitive so kids can just enjoy themselves and discover what they like to do. Each session focuses on a different sport or aspect of a sport, so they won’t get bored or frustrated. And because CBRC provides all the equipment, it’s a low-cost option to introduce kids to new activities ($69 for members, $99 for non-members).
AGILITY AND BRAIN POWER
Older youth, ages 9 to 12 and 13 to 18, have the option of signing up for Speed, Agility and Quickness Training (SAQ) ($59 for members, $79 for non-members).
This method of training aims to improve multi-directional movement by reprogramming their neuromuscular system. It also helps improve brain power in lateral, linear, horizontal movement, ground force reaction time, brain signal efficiency, spatial awareness, and motor skills.
Again, sessions are small and trainers get to know the participants so they can provide a safe and personalized experience.
BE FIT, HAVE FUN
Registration for Youth Programs is still open and available through the start of each session, and the session times are convenient. Many parents drop their child off for training while they run errands. Some attend group exercise classes or workout by themselves. Many continue the fun by taking the family swimming at Pelican Bay for the afternoon.
Whatever you choose to do at CBRC, your child can learn new physical skills, stay active over the summer, and continue to keep their brain busy until school starts again in the fall.
