Columbia Basin Racquet Club offers a range of personalized services that include Balanced Habits Life Nutrition, tennis lessons, Triathlon training, and swimming lessons. But nothing is more individualized than sessions with a certified personal trainer.
Before meeting with a personal trainer, you’ll meet with Morgan Fewel, CBRC’s Director of Fitness. She’ll talk with you about your expectations and goals to determine which trainer is a good fit for you.
STARTING POINT
Your first appointment with a trainer will include a Starting Point Assessment/Functional Movement Screening. Abi Petersen, who has been a trainer at CBRC for nearly two years, says one of her favorite parts of being a trainer is getting to make personal connections with clients to help them meet their goals.
This connection starts when she assesses a client’s fitness ability, and “discusses their main goals, learns about any injuries or illness that can affect exercise, what types of exercises they enjoy, nutrition struggles, and then answer any questions.” Communication with new clients is essential. Abi says, ” I want to know as much information as possible so I can set them up for success.”
KEEP AN OPEN MIND
Success can look different for different people and knowing basic things such as how frequently you can dedicate time to exercise can make a significant difference in how your trainer will approach your workouts.
Abi has clients who are “new to fitness altogether and clients who are gym rats who want to change up their routine at the gym and need new ideas.” No matter what level of experience you have, Abi recommends you approach personal training with an open mind. A lot of people are intimidated with personal trainers “because of what they have seen in shows and movies – like we’re drill sergeants – but we’re only trying to help them feel more comfortable at the gym and get the results they want.”
FIND A GOOD FIT
Abi is proud to work with CBRC’s team of trainers because “they’re great and all have their strengths.” Whether you don’t know exactly what you want to work on, or if you have specific goals in mind, there’s a trainer who can help. All their bios are posted online and include individual certifications, specialty areas, and interests outside of the gym.
Just as there are trainers to meet your individual needs, there are a variety of personal training packages and monthly rates. The best way to determine which option is best for you is to make an appointment with Morgan and schedule a complimentary assessment with a trainer who will help you be your best.
