Families Who Sweat Together, Stay Together!

Working out is often considered an individual practice. Individuals go to the gym alone, schedule a private session with a personal trainer, or even attend a group fitness class alone. However, approaching fitness as a family practice can be very beneficial for your children and your family as a whole.

Health Designs says, “Participating in physical activity as a family also strengthens family bonds and improves the overall mood of both the parents and the children. The benefits even go as far as a better night’s sleep and improved performance at work and school.” Sylvia Rimm, a psychologist and director of the Family Achievement Clinic in Cleveland states, “Exercise not only improves health, but increases self-confidence and reduces anxiety in children.”

Parents Magazine has created a list of 10 Benefits of Physical Activity that you can review to help you learn additional reasons why it is important to exercise. This list has everything from strengthening your heart to increasing your energy. Wouldn’t it be wonderful for everyone in your family to have a healthy body inside and out? Also, the extra energy can help with chores around the house!

PBS Parents released an article called Encouraging Family Fitness & Healthy Habits that states, “A daily exercise program is essential for every child’s normal growth and development. The benefits of exercise are endless, and go deeper than just fighting heart disease and other adolescent risk factors for poor health.” Parents are the most important role models in their children’s life. Setting the foundation that fitness is important, will help your children establish healthy habits. CBRC wants you and everyone in your family to live long and healthy lives!

Often times, parents might feel guilty for working out because it takes away from time with the family. This does not have to be the case! If fitness was a family activity, you can spend family time and still get a workout. CBRC has activities for all ages to participate in. From tennis lessons to karate to swimming, there is something for everyone. Children can also enjoy Kid’s Play and Basketball while parents enjoy another fitness option at the club.
