Rise and Shine blog post

The rising of the sun signals a brand new day. A new day full of possibilities and opportunities. Why not take the opportunity to begin your morning with simple exercises to awaken your body? If you are a morning person, you may get excited about these morning wake-up exercises. If you are not a morning person, you may appreciate these exercises that will energize your mornings and get you moving!

Yoga

If you want to start your day with stretching, balancing, meditation, and a mindfulness check-in – try yoga! Yoga can help you ease into the rhythm of the day. Many people begin each day with a few yoga poses and flows. Short morning workouts (10-20 minutes) are a wonderful way to wake up and energize your body. Check out these yoga videos for morning practices: 15-Minute Morning Yoga Routine, 15 Minute Full Body Yoga Flow, and Beginner Morning Yoga for Women. Whether it is child’s pose, or a mix of other poses, you will feel ready to tackle your day.

Morning Exercises for the Kiddos

When I was a kid, I either remember jumping out of bed and running outside to play or wanting to stay in my warm bed and never get out! Whether or not your kids are early risers, here are some fun morning exercises to get them out of bed!

Here are “8 Exercises to Help Kids Wake Up in the Morning and Fall Asleep at Night” from La Petit Academy. Some of their fun ideas or waking up include:

  • Dancing, marching, jumping jacks, knee lunges, animal races (run across the room like different animals), walk around the block, and yoga (again!) Check out these fun yoga poses for kids.

Morning Stretches for Seniors

Stretching in the morning is a great activity for everyone! Daily Caring has a great list of morning stretches for seniors (or anyone!), which can all be done from a seated position in a chair. These stretches warm and open up your body, to get you ready for the day. Check out their website for an easy to follow 4 minute video!

Their stretches include:

  • Overhead stretch, upper back stretch, chest stretch, side stretch, spine twist, back of thigh stretch, ankle circles, shoulder rolls, and more
